The programme, funded under the TVET Development project will facilitate and support the selection and enrollment of trainees in Technical Vocational Education and Training programmes leading to “unit competency awards” or a Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ level 1).
In addition to occupational skill training, trainees will be supported with selection and registration services

Funded under the Human Development Service Delivery (HDSD) PROJECT, the Youth and Adults Training for Employment (YATE) Programme is designed to assist underprivileged and unemployed youth and adults between the ages 17- 45 to develop the basic competencies needed to obtain employment and/or to pursue further employment-related training. YATE is designed to train unemployed youths and adults in CVQ Level 1 programmes, to provide quality, competency-based certification consistent with labour market needs. An aspect of the training will focus on entrepreneurship and provide support for participation and completion of the training. This programme will train approximately 1,200 disadvantaged persons in SVG. Following completion of in-class training, trainees will participate in work attachments with employers. Programmes available for training include areas of Electrical Installation, Plumbing, Data Operations, Food Preparation, Food and Beverage, Welding, Housekeeping, Cosmetology and General Construction. PLAR is a programme designed for persons employed in industry or who are self-employed and are seeking certification for skills acquired. It is the formal and non-formal experiences gained in a skill area over a period of time. The assessment of prior learning involves matching what the individual already knows and can do with the performance indicators described in the National or Regional Qualifications Standards. Candidates must provide the evidence of competence for each unit in which certification is sought. These may include samples of work, letters of validation, photos, videos etc. Contact the Sector Skills Development Agency for further information.
The Commercial Food Preparation programme prepares students to start a career in a restaurant or hotel or for self employment. In this programme, students will learn how to prepare a variety of delectable dishes at a more advanced level. Trainess are required to complete industry attachment at the end of training. This will provide them with the opportunity to apply and strengthen the knowledge, skills and attitudes acquired during their training.

This programme allows students to explore the culinary world at a more advanced level by preparing dishes and meals for a number of occasions. If you somehow dream of being a chef one day then this programme is the ideal start to your journey. Trainees are required to complete industry attachment at the end of training. This will provide them with the opportunity to apply and strengthen the knowledge, skills and attitudes acquired during their training.

The Food and Drink Service Programme prepares students to start a career in a hotel, restaurant or bar. In this programme students will learn how to prepare service areas and deal with various customers in a front of the house operation, in taking orders and serving customers. Trainees are required to complete industry attachment at the end of training. This will provide them with the opportunity to apply and strengthen the knowledge, skills and attitudes acquired during their training.

The plumbing programme will prepare students for a career in plumbing. Students will learn about preparing, assembling, installing and servicing units, fixtures and systems for the kitchen, bathroom and lavatory. They will develop skills in drawing and interpreting sketches, drafting of estimates and will also be able to select and use hand and power tools such as drills, grinders, jigsaws, cutting saws, threading machines, sanders, planers to execute their job. Trainees are required to complete industry attachment at the end of training. This will provide them with the opportunity to apply and strengthen the knowledge, skills and attitudes acquired during their training.

The Welding Programme is designed to teach students the skills needed for employment in the welding and fabrication sector. This Programme will allow students the opportunity to acquire skills in basic welding using manual and oxyacetylene welding processes. Trainees are required to complete industry attachment at the end of training. This will provide them with the opportunity to apply and strengthen the knowledge, skills and attitudes acquired during their training.

In this programme, students will undergo training in pattern drafting and sewing garments such as dresses (straight, sleeve/sleeveless), blouses, skirts and pants. It entails assembling various components of garments. It also entails checking machine performance and undertaking minor adjustments to machines. Trainees are required to complete industry attachment at the end of training. This will provide them with the opportunity to apply and strengthen the knowledge, skills and attitudes acquired during their training.

In this programme, students will learn to design and manufacture various kinds of furniture for domestic and industrial use. They will be equipped with joinery and woodworking skills that will prepare them for self-employment or the workplace.

The Electrical Installation programme prepares trainees with the knowledge and skills required to work in the electrical environment. The units in this programme include performing electrical/electronic measurements using appropriate measuring devices, wiring techniques, and preparing buildings for inspection. Trainees are required to complete industry attachment at the end of training. This will provide them with the opportunity to apply and strengthen the knowledge, skills and attitudes acquired during their training.

This programme prepares you for an entry level position in the Information Technology Industry. This includes operating applications and peripheral devices. At the end of this hands on training experience, you will be able to function as data entry clerks in numerous sectors. Trainees are required to complete industry attachment at the end of training. This will provide them with the opportunity to apply and strengthen the knowledge, skills and attitudes acquired during their training.

This programme prepares you for an entry level position in the Construction Industry. In this exciting programme, students will be able to hone their skills in using hand and power tools, concreting and preparing for tiling, plastering and painting etc. Trainees are required to complete industry attachment at the end of training. This will provide them with the opportunity to apply and strengthen the knowledge, skills and attitudes acquired during their training.
